Benefits of an oil cleanser
Oil cleansers are brilliant at removing make-up, sunscreen, excess oil and grime from your skin. The oil works attracting the oil and dirt on your skin to effectively remove and leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. The type of oils you have in your cleaner will determine its effectiveness and how it takes care of your skin.
Fatty carrier oils are the best, carrier oils are non-fragrant plant oils that contain glycerides (esters of glycerol and fatty acids), these carrier oils also mimic the sebum that our skin produces.
Types of carrier oils you can look for in cleansers
- Rice Bran Oil
- Jojoba
- Sweet Almond
- Apricot Kernel
- Rosehip
- Avocado
- Grapeseed
- Marula
How to use a cleansing oil:
To use a cleansing oil, apply a small amount of the product to wet skin, gently massage over face and eye area, our cleanser is an oil to milk cleanser, so as you massage the oil will turn into a lovely milky emulsion. When you have massaged into the skin, remove with a damp wash cloth, and pat skin dry with a soft, clean towel. If you have make-up and sunscreen we recommend double cleansing, but go gently with sensitive skin, if your sensitive skin is red, tight and dry try one longer single cleanse.
The benefits of using an oil cleanser include:
-
Effective Makeup and Sunscreen Removal:
- Oil cleansers are excellent at breaking down and removing makeup, including stubborn eye makeup, as well as sunscreen. The oil helps to dissolve and lift away these products, leaving your skin clean.
-
Removal of Excess Oil and Grime:
- Oil cleansers effectively remove excess oil and impurities from the skin's surface, helping to unclog pores and prevent breakouts.
-
Gentle on the Skin:
- The oil-to-milk transformation of the cleanser makes the process gentle on the skin. It ensures a smooth and non-abrasive application, leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth.
-
Mimics the Skin's Sebum:
- Carrier oils, such as those mentioned (like jojoba, sweet almond, and avocado), mimic the skin's natural sebum. This makes them suitable for various skin types, as they can help balance oil production.
-
Hydration and Nourishment:
- Many carrier oils used in cleansers are rich in nutrients and fatty acids, providing hydration and nourishment to the skin. This can be especially beneficial for those with dry or dehydrated skin.
-
Gentle Exfoliation:
- Massaging the oil onto the skin can help in a gentle form of exfoliation by loosening dead skin cells. The oil emulsion created during the cleansing process helps to lift away these cells, promoting a smoother complexion.
-
Suitable for Sensitive Skin:
- Oil cleansers, especially those with mild formulations, can be suitable for sensitive skin. The use of natural carrier oils can be less irritating compared to some harsher cleansers.
-
Double Cleansing Option:
- For those wearing heavy makeup or sunscreen, the option of double cleansing provides a thorough and effective way to ensure all residues are removed from the skin.
Are oil cleansers suitable for everyone?
It's important to note that oil cleansing may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with very oily skin. Individuals with oily skin may need to follow up with a gentle cleanser to remove any remaining residue. Additionally, those with sensitive skin should approach oil cleansing cautiously and may choose to do a longer single cleanse to avoid potential irritation. As with any skincare product, it's advisable to perform a patch test before regular use.
